Evie going down the slide at the kids area in the zoo... her new method is sliding on her belly. I had to keep the little boy at the top from sliding into her.
Beautiful blue bird, he(?) was looking a bit threatened

Monkey See Monkey Do
It is so true that children copy what they see others around them doing. It is sooo cute sometimes and other times a little bit of an awakening to things in your life that you need to change. This is one of those cute times...
Yesterday I mowed our lawn for the first time... D normally handles that area but he has been working a ton and it really needed it and it was supposed to (and actually did) rain today. So I thought I would help him out in his arena for a change. Evie slept for most of it and then at the end she was awake but playing in her bed so I was able to get done without having to worry about keeping her away from the mower. Afterwards she played with her mower and helped me sweep some of the grass off our driveway and sidewalk - I am clearly not a professional! So today D was doing the maintenance on the mower and Evie thought she should do some on hers and then later helped Daddy with his :)

Happy Birthday/Mother's Day to me!
So, my husband with the help of birthday money from his parents and my parents and grandma (plus my Christmas money I had been hoarding for some reason still - oh, anyone who knows me would attest that I don't spend money well, unless it is at garage sales but that is for another post) told me earlier this week that my gift for both my birthday which was May 4 and Mothers' Day I was getting a serger! *yay*
Now at first I did freak out because they are expensive, but then after I figured out that I had enough money saved up from the afore mentioned that my husband was only going to spend a max of $50 depending on which one I chose... which brings me to the next part.
Which one should I choose? Part of the money is in the form of a gift card for Hancock Fabrics so that is where I will get it from. Now there is a sale on a couple of the sergers until May 27th. I would appreciate any input.

Rainy Day
It rained this afternoon after Evie woke up from her whopping 1 hour nap (yes, she definitely needed a longer nap!) She was a little on edge especially since she couldn't go outside which is usually a cure all. So, since she has been working on her second molar for a while now I gave her an ice cube, then another, then another, then I just gave her a little dish of them. She was pretty happy by that point as you can see in the picture. So, she was my little sunshine during the rain :)

First Smoothie is a hit!
Okay, so I wasn't even planning on sharing but you know how it goes when you are having something... the little ones want to try it too. So I thought since all that is in this smoothie is orange juice and strawberries, why not? We started with her sitting on my lap for just a taste. She sipped through the straw and to my surprise it all stayed in her mouth (she is a water dribbler by nature). Then I used the end of the straw like a spoon to give her some and that was the end of it... she then wanted to grab the straw and mix the smoothie around and eat it off the end of the straw, which she did really well amazingly enough! I decided for the safety of my clothing and hers too that we would just get back in the highchair so she could be independent and do it herself. Oh and all the while she kept making yummy noises - I love it!

Gardening with Grandma
A week ago Friday Evie and I went back to my parents' to help clean out my grandmother's house that had passed away because after a year on the market it finally sold (yay!) We got there Friday afternoon and when my mom got home from work we "helped" her in the garden :) Evie is so funny about getting her hands dirty. Usually if she gets dirt or something on them she will hold them up to you like she is saying "yuck, would you please get this off of me". When we started out in the dirt she stayed at the edge of the garden and kind of picked at the dirt with a hand rake, then a few times she urgently showed me her dirty hands, but by the end of the experience she was all in and we went straight inside to the bathtub at the end!
In the wheelbarrow, I took her all around the yard in this and she thought it was great! What a fun new mode of transportation!
dumping her snacks out, you can see the soon to be yummy rhubarb patch to the left of her
helping put the potatoes in, that is my mommy way at the other end
using the hand rake to help plant potatoes (this was before she was all in)
starting to get curious
a little bit further in the dirt
following grandma out into the midst of it all
doing her own thing while grandma puts in the tomatoes

She is so funny, she just loves to help and be a part of whatever we are doing. I look forward to seeing how she will grow in that as she becomes more able to participate fully in different activities.
