Weekend Away

We had a wedding out of state on the 5th of June and so we made sure the hotel had a pool so Evie could practice swimming :) The wedding was an evening wedding so by the end of the night E was so tired! She did really good in the car going 4 and 1/2 hours each way in panties even! We had one accident because we were in a construction zone and had no where to pull over for too long after she told us she had to go. She even slept till 7:30 in the morning in the other bed in the hotel!

A big pool!

How to make a flower hair clip... or Finally, I made something!

I have been in such a rut lately of not finishing (or really even starting) any projects and it was really bothering me. This past weekend we had a wedding to go to and I just happened to have some fake flowers in my craft stuff that matched the dress I had gotten for Evie. I tried to find a tutorial on how to make a flower hair clip but didn't find anything in my brief search so... I winged it. Now I am not one that is usually comfortable trying something that I might mess up but I felt okay about this because I had a dozen of these purple flowers that I got for free and so figured I would get it right eventually and wasn't really out anything but time if it went badly a few times. So I thought I would share how I did it for those who might want to try it as well.

I started with this... just a regular artificial flower that I pulled off the stem.
Then I dissasembled the pieces and was left with this... I discarded the plastic parts that held it together originally.

I had some single pronged alligator clips and grossgrain ribbon that I used to make a lined clip. All I did was use my low heat glue gun to stick it all the way around. I will say if you have never done it before only put glue on small bits at a time because with the low heat glue gun it cools very fast and if you don't stick it down quick enough it is just a lump on the ribbon.

Then to assemble the flower I just glued each petal layer to the next and then glued a small flat jewel in the middle to cover the hole. Then just glue the whole thing to the lined clip. I used all of the petal layers from the original flower but of course you can used just a few if you wish. The whole process with stopping to take pictures only took about 10 or 15 minutes and that was while trying to figure it out so I would think that after you know what you are doing it would only take a few minutes to do. So a good project to do when you want to have instant gratification :)
Here is the outfit together... I did add a white crocheted headband to it since she still doesn't have enough hair to support a clip :)

She was very cooperative for her photo shoot as you can see.

CHEESE!

The wedding was at 6:30pm so the lighting outside afterwards was perfect for pictures! This one looks almost professional ;)

A better view of the flower and a sweet daddy daughter moment.

So, there you have it. A quick and easy project to produce a flower clip that would cost you $5 or more to purchase. I think mine cost me about 15 cent because the flower and jewel were free and the clip was about 10 cents plus glue. Anyways, I am going to be on the lookout for cute cheap fake flowers that are destined to life as a hair clip! Let me know if you have any questions!
